TORRY BOOK SIGNING AT THE WEE RANGERS CLUB

Pitch authors David Herd and Ian Stewart will be joined by Rangers star of the 1970s and 1980s Bobby Russell, for the launch of their Torry Gillick biography, at The Wee Rangers Club on Friday 16th August from 1pm until 3pm.

The Gillick family will also be in attendance, and books can be purchased with a £5 saving on the retail price.

Torry: The Life and Career of a Football Great is the story of the remarkable Torry Gillick, a Scottish international footballer revered both in Glasgow and Liverpool.

On the pitch, Gillick won every possible honour in Scottish football with Rangers across two spells at Ibrox, and was the only player signed twice by the legendary Bill Struth.

At Everton, he was a key player in their famous league title triumph in 1939, making the club the last champions before World War Two.

Gillick was a character and an entertainer, his skills and goals earning him a place in the Hall of Fame at both clubs.

But his story is about more than his wonderful football career; it is one of a family man whose life was blighted by tragedy and heartache, but who always emerged stronger and who earned respect and friendship in and out of football.

David Herd is an acclaimed author on the history of Rangers FC, whose three previous books have been lauded by club fans. He writes regularly for various fan media groups, and is a popular speaker at Rangers fan events.

Ian Stewart is an established author who has penned biographies on legendary manager Bill Struth and captain Jock Shaw. Both auhors are experts on Rangers FC history.

Born in Glasgow, Bobby Russell served the clubbetween 1977 and 1987, making his first-team debut aged only 20. Rangers went on to win the treble in his first season and Russell cemented his place on the right side of the midfield.

He made 370 appearances for the club and won a league championship, two Scottish Cups and four Scottish League Cups.
